This is an Invergordon grain whisky made from maize, barley and wheat (‘single’ means one distillery, not one grain). That mash bill made it clean, sweet and floral from the start. It is the five decades in refill American Oak Hogsheads that has developed deep complexity.

“A grain whisky this old can become something special – still as approachable and easy-drinking, but showing off subtle tones of classic wood flavours such as vanilla. This definitely has - with popcorn, toffee, brioche and maple syrup notes, but also highlights of toasted hazelnut, mandarin and melon, and even aromatic herbs like tarragon.”
Tasting Notes
Nose
Cinder toffee, boiled orange sweets and caramelised popcorn build and envelop the glass. Warm toffee sauce over toasted hazelnuts and a background note of buttered brioche.
Palate
A juicy texture carries flavours of sweet mandarins and melon sweets. Vanilla paste mixed into cake batter with a hint of maple syrup and orange pith alongside tarragon.
Finish
Some dry wood spice lingers along with maple syrup over porridge.
