Sukhinder Singh has worked in every aspect of the spirits business – from stacking his parents’ off-licence shelves, via creating one of the largest online drinks retailers, to bottling highly sought-after whiskies and fine spirits, and establishing his own distilleries.
Sukhinder is acknowledged by those who know – from Dufftown to Bridgetown, and beyond – not only as one of the planet’s most expert and experienced collectors of spirits, but also as the most enthusiastic sharer of knowledge and, indeed, of bottles.
For many years, Sukhinder has navigated the world of drinks, exploring and investigating what is happening at distilleries long-established and new; and he’s always in touch with a community of fellow super-connoisseurs, who alert him to exciting liquid developments, wherever they may be found.
Now, in The Elixir Trails series, Sukhinder and his team bring you the whiskies and other spirits that he would be keen to recommend to his friends.
Flavour, Flavour, Flavour
As Sukhinder often says, the only thing that matters is 'flavour, flavour, flavour' - finding great-tasting spirits then understanding how such incredible flavours are created.
Real connoisseurs of spirits appreciate that great liquid starts with the craft of the distiller. For some clear spirits, it starts and ends there. Others, those aged in wood, need to be nurtured by the blender to enhance and balance the final product.
Nor does Elixir Trails try to cram in flavour at the finish, or use shortcuts to disguise the quality of the liquids. When Sukhinder and the team judge that re-racking or vatting are necessary, those processes are designed to complete and enhance what the original maker intended.
Reputation is not important to Elixir Trails – only quality. We’re interested in quality without consideration of whether it’s from a well-known brand with global distribution or created by a local cult producer.
