Panama

Most famous for its canal, linking the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Panama is also a bridge between the main bulk of Central America and the continent to its south, geographically and culturally. Because of that, when sugar cane arrived in the 16th century, thriving particularly on the plains on the Pacific coast, drinks made from it took two distinct directions. The national drink is seco, a triple-distilled spirit made from cane juice similar to cachaça.
