This is the shortest journey of discovery on the Whisky Trail, as it was originally our team at Elixir who blended these two Islay malts for an earlier project. It was so good that we thought we’d keep some aside to mature for an extra three years in Oloroso butts to develop it further.

“We love to blend peated malts from different Islay distilleries, because each has its own unique smoky profile. In this blend, we balanced an oily malt that has notes of barbecued mackerel, toasted marshmallow and smoky bacon, with a lighter malt that provides citrus and herb notes as well as pure coal smoke.”
Tasting Notes
Nose
Coal smoke, charred mackerel skins and preserved lemons. Warm dates wrapped with streaky bacon and cherry sauce.
Palate
Dense and weighty with piles of peat smoke upfront. Heavily charred marshmallow along with currants and orange oil. Cheery chocolate liqueurs alongside BBQ ribeye steak with charred asparagus.
Finish
Lingering brooding peat along with lemon and thyme.
